Energy vs Friction

Mar 8, 12:21 PM | written by Dave Peele

Nick Usborne has written a great article posted at A List Apart . The article touches on the most pertinent question a business must answer when developing their website – what do you want the visitors to your site to do and how will you get them to do that?

Every website needs a purpose, a “call to action” to the user, leading them to do something. There are many different things you may want the user to do on your site. The first trick is to figure out the most important action and design a pathway that gives the user the energy to complete that action. The next trick is to make the action process as easy as possible – the energy must outweigh the friction.

Nick Usborne does a great job of illustrating this point with a clever analogy applied to the web .
